About Me

Welcome to Matlock Podiatry

My name is Abigail Horridge, BSc (Hons), and I am a fully qualified podiatrist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I began my career with Derbyshire Community Health Services (DCHS) in 2018 as a podiatry assistant alongside my university studies. I qualified in 2020 with a First-Class degree, achieving the Dean’s Award for Excellent Academic Achievement.

Since qualifying, I have worked full time within the NHS, specialising in diabetes foot care and progressing to Band 7 Highly Specialised Diabetes Podiatrist. During this time, I gained extensive experience in the early detection and management of foot health complications, with a strong focus on the prevention of lower limb amputation.

I now work solely in the private sector, where I can dedicate more time to providing personalised treatment and care for a wide range of foot health needs.

Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors and can often be found hiking through the beautiful Peak District or walking my two dogs. At home, I enjoy time with my husband and our cat, Ernie.

Our Services

I offer a range of services, designed to get you back on you feet quickly. Here is some information about the services I offer.

This is your first appointment with Matlock Podiatry.
If you are new to us, this is the appointment you need. It includes a full assessment, treatment, and a tailored management plan.

The fee for your initial appointment is £50, payable in full prior to treatment.

Treatment is generally included in this fee. However, some advanced therapies may carry additional costs — for example, certain verruca or fungal nail treatments, orthotics, or nail surgery.

This appointment is for your ongoing care at Matlock Podiatry.
If you have seen us before and are returning for further treatment, this is the appointment you need.

Please note: all clients must attend an initial appointment first so that we can assess your needs.

The fee for ongoing care appointments is £35.

Annual Diabetic Foot Assessment – £30

This appointment is for your yearly diabetic foot assessment at Matlock Podiatry. If you have diabetes, it is recommended to have your feet checked at least once a year — or more frequently if problems are identified.

At this appointment we will:

  • Review your medical history

  • Assess blood flow to your feet

  • Check for any neurological changes that may increase your risk of complications

  • Provide a summary of risk factors and advice on how best to manage your foot health

  • Give you a copy of your results to share with your GP practice

Please note: no treatment is provided at this appointment. If you require treatment, a separate routine appointment will need to be booked.

Follow-Up Appointment – £35

This appointment is for clients with ongoing conditions (such as heel pain or sports injuries) who have already had an initial assessment.

Please note: an initial appointment is required first to determine your needs and create a tailored management plan.

Verrutop is a specialist treatment for verrucae.

  • Initial consultation required: All new patients must attend an initial consultation first to confirm the diagnosis and ensure Verrutop is suitable.

  • Pricing:

    • New patients: £65 (includes consultation, treatment, and Verrutop product)

    • Returning patients: £50 per session (includes treatment and product)

Please note: Verrutop is charged at £15 each time the product is applied, which is included in the fees above.

Most patients require a course of 3–6 treatments, scheduled around 2 weeks apart.

The Lacuna Method is a specialist treatment for fungal nail infections. It involves creating tiny micro-holes in the nail plate, which allows antifungal medication to reach the source of the infection more effectively. This approach helps to target the fungus directly and can significantly improve the appearance and health of the nails over time.

  • Initial consultation required: A full consultation is needed first to confirm the diagnosis and check that the Lacuna Method is suitable for you.

  • Pricing:

    • Package: £300 – includes 6 appointments and all treatment within the course.

    • Ad-hoc follow-ups (after completing the package): £50 per appointment.

Please note: fungal nail infections can take many months to resolve, as nails grow slowly. Regular attendance and following aftercare advice are essential for the best results.

Accordion Content

Nail surgery is a minor procedure used to treat persistent or recurring painful toenail problems, such as ingrown toenails. In most cases, we use chemical cautery with phenol.

  • What is it?
After removing a small section (or the whole nail if needed), phenol is applied to the nail root. This destroys the nail-growing cells in that area, preventing regrowth and reducing the chance of the problem coming back.

  • Why do we do it?
This treatment is recommended when other conservative methods have not resolved the issue. It provides long-term relief for patients who suffer with repeated ingrown or damaged nails.

  • Initial consultation:
A full consultation is required first to confirm diagnosis and ensure that nail surgery is the most suitable treatment for you.

  • Pricing:

    • £280 per toe – includes the procedure, 2 follow-up appointments, and all necessary dressings.

    • In rare cases, nail surgery can be performed without chemical cautery (phenol-free). This may be discussed at your appointment and is charged at a reduced rate.

We are excited to announce that verruca needling treatment will soon be available at Matlock Podiatry.

  • What is it?
Verruca needling is a minor procedure carried out under local anaesthetic. The verruca is punctured multiple times to push the virus into the deeper layers of the skin, where the body’s immune system can recognise it and trigger a response.

  • Why choose needling?
It can be a good option for stubborn verrucae that have not responded to other treatments. Unlike some methods, it often only requires a small number of treatments.

  • Availability:
This service will be launching soon — details on pricing and booking will follow.

If you’d like to be notified when this treatment becomes available, please contact us and we’ll be happy to add you to our waiting list.

We will be updating and adding to our services regularly so please pop back to this page to check for any updates.
